When people think of accountants, they often imagine spreadsheets, deadlines, and tax returns. While those are certainly part of the job, they don’t tell the full story, at least not mine.

Behind every accountant is a person shaped by experiences, challenges, and passions. For me, those experiences have played a key role in how I support my clients today.

Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone

Over the years, I’ve made a conscious effort to explore interests beyond my professional life. One of the most transformative experiences was hosting my own radio show for four years on local stations.

At the beginning, it was daunting. Sitting behind a microphone, knowing people were listening, pushed me well outside my comfort zone. My first show was filled with nerves, I could barely introduce the songs. But over time, that changed. I grew in confidence, started inviting guests, and truly found my voice.

That journey taught me something invaluable: growth comes from discomfort. It’s a lesson I carry into my work with clients, helping them navigate unfamiliar territory with confidence.

Creativity, Leadership, and Recognition

Another passion of mine is working with a local amateur drama group. While I don’t act, I’ve directed several productions, including one that received a Best Drama award from NODA.

Directing requires organisation, communication, and the ability to bring out the best in others, skills that translate directly into my work as an accountant.

Whether it’s guiding a production or supporting a business owner, the goal is the same: helping people succeed.

My Journey Into Accounting

My path into accounting wasn’t a straight line.

Originally, I had ambitions of becoming a police officer. Instead, I began my career in a support role within a purchasing department. It was there that I was first introduced to financial processes, starting with purchase invoices and data entry.

That early exposure sparked an interest that grew into a career.

Over the years, I’ve worked across a wide range of sectors, including professional associations, charities, and manufacturing businesses. I

’ve taken on roles such as credit controller, management accountant, and auditor, each one adding a new layer of understanding.

Eventually, I moved into practice accounting, and that’s where everything clicked.

More Than Compliance

Working in practice opened my eyes to something important: not all accounting services are created equal.

It’s easy to provide a basic compliance service, filing accounts, meeting deadlines, and ticking boxes.

But that’s not what most business owners truly need. What they need is someone in their corner.

Someone who understands their business. Someone who offers guidance, not just reports. Someone who knows when to advise and when to give a gentle nudge.

That’s the approach I’ve built my service around.

A Tailored, Personal Approach

At Scipio Accounting Service, I don’t believe in a one size fits all model. Every client is different, and the level of support they need will vary.

Some want hands-on guidance and regular input. Others prefer a lighter touch, with support available when needed.

My role is to adapt to that, to provide a tailored service that works for you, your business, and your goals.

Because ultimately, accounting isn’t just about numbers.

It’s about people, relationships, and helping you build something that lasts.
